Catch the Lake Trout Fall Frenzy!!

Sept. 10-14

Sept. 14-18

"I caught this 42” at Max Lake a couple weeks ago.We had a great time.  The outpost was the nicest I’ve been to in 3 trips." Anthony Hammack

"Facilities were great this year and most of our group repeating, thought the fishing was best ever." Pete Lee

"Hi Sam, Here is the picture of my 47.25” .Catching a fish like this was truly an experience to remember. I caught it on a large Bucktail, after about a fifteen minute battle to get it close to the boat she spit out the lure.  Cowboy our guide, Tom Somenske my partner, and I just stood there in silence looking at this beautiful fish lying in the water.  With the lure one foot away from her mouth, I pushed the release button on my reel and let the lure sink.  Suddenly she bent in half like a horse shoe and hammered the lure again! The next thing you know Cowboy was leaning way to far out of the boat with the net on one side and I was leaning way to far out of the boat on the other side pulling the fish toward the net mean while Tom was picking himself up from the bottom of the boat encouraging us to do well (three guys changing position in one boat that fast was tricky!) Finally she was in.  We were all truly exhausted. After we thought that nothing could top that adventure Cowboy said come on boys there’s fish to catch here! Wouldn’t you know Tom came close by catching two more Masters with in a half an hour! Thank you and to all that made this trip happen!" Rick Discher

"Sam & Lyle,
Once again we had a great fishing trip at Molson Lake.  In one evening of night fishing, Geoff Pawlikowski caught these two master angler walleye.  Thanks for all the good times."

    Allan Pawlikowski

"Sam- This fatty is 42", approximately 30lbs according to Matthew! Dan & I truly enjoyed your hospitality. Great fishing...and food too! Look forward to seeing you again." Lou Williott

"Sam, I've got quite a few photos for ya from our trip in June.  We had a great time, and this was my second consecutive trip for being a 5-time Master Angler!  (This time, all walleyes!)  We've never had walleye fishing this good, and we've been coming for quite some time." Kevin Pike

"Sixth trip to Molson, and one of the best. We've been other places, but Molson is hard to beat. I'm already looking forward to trip number seven." Brant Davis

"Branden and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Molson Lake Lodge. Sunday was our best day with over 100 walleyes and 2 master anglers, but Branden's favorite fish was this huge Northern. Sam and the crew did a great job. Our guide was the absolute best guide I have ever had for any hunting or fishing adventure. He communicated exceptionally well, shared his lures when ours were the wrong color, did a great job with shore lunch, and got us into fish. He also had a good sense of humor and made my grandson feel special. We'll be back." Steve Scheel

"Sam, Here is a picture of my first master angler Walleye ever. I have never fished in July at Molson's before. the walleye were consistantly bigger. I had the good fortune of catching 3 masters in one morning. The largest was 28.5 inches. My guide was Doc and he knew where and how to get the job done. I have in the past and again this year caught a master angler pike in early June at Max. We brought my god son, age 10 up to Molson's for the first time on this trip and caught many lake trout as well. I will send a picture of my master angler pike in a few days as well. Keep up the good work and we hope to continue visiting Molson's in the future." Regards Dr Jim Campi

"Sam, this was my second trip to Molson and our whole group had a great time.  I included a picture of my 29" Walleye, one of our party and I both caught a Master Angler Fish the first time we dropped a line in the water...another great trip!!" Thanks again, Danny Stahl

"Sam, we already booked for Little Bolton in 2009; we averaged  100/fish per man per day mixed eyes and pike; weather was  fntastic as were accomodations; adding the shower was a big plus; see you next year" Bob Notz

July 8th Update

Master Angler Mania is still going strong here at Molson. Roger & Sharon Borlaug missed a Grand Slam by inches in the last three days. On the second day, of their three day trip, Sharon landed a Master Angler Lake Trout the first morning we used the downriggers. That afternoon, Roger boated two Master Angler Northern. Tim Kneeland left Molson on July 6th with three Master Angler Walleye in four days - including a 30 inch Walleye! Thank you, to Joe Saumweber who spent a few days at Molson updating our NEW VIRTUAL TOUR. July 3rd Update

Another sunny day here at Molson with an expected high of 72 degrees with a west wind at 5 mph - Perfect! The Master Angler Walleyes continue to roll in every day. We are creeping up on tripling the 2007 total for MA Walleye. The weeds are now up in the bays at Molson and the big Northerns are being seen and caught daily. The Notz party had a great trip at Little Bolton -

The Frandsen party left Max Lake this morning with 21 Master Anglers for four people! These include 4 @ 44", 2 @ 45", 1 @ 45 1/2", 1 @ 46", 1 @ 48", and 1 - 48 1/2" monster. June 23rd Update

The last group that came out of our Max Lake Outpost Camp landed 14 Master Anglers including 45 & 46 inch Northerns. The last group to come out of our Little Bolton Lake Outpost Camp said it was the best fishing trip they had ever been on. They recorded 4 MA Northern and countless Pike in the 35-40 inch range. Too many walleye to count. I asked the group what they were biting on...they laughed and said anything you threw in the water. Our evening fishermen landed 3 more MA Walleye last night on Molson. We have 8 women at the lodge, right now, and 6 of them have caught Master Anglers in the last three days. The weather continues to be great. Looking forward to the last week in June. Stay tuned....

June 21st Update

Six more Master Angler Walleye were caught yesterday by Molson Lake Lodge guests. We have already broken last year's Master Angler Walleye total. In fact, as of June 20th, 2008, Molson Lake Lodge guests have caught almost double the Master Angler Walleye total in 2007 (which was one of our best years)!! The last five day package produced 28 Master Anglers at Molson including 11 Master Anglers in one day (June 19). The water at Molson is lower than last year and is still very cold. All three species are still in shallow water...Lake Trout are being caught casting on the reefs, Walleye are congregating in "The Flats", and the Northern Pike are being sight casted in a few feet of water. The fishing at the Outpost Camps has been nothing short of spectacular, as well. The last group that came out of Max Lake caught & released 25 Master Angler Northern! Max has produced at least 5 fish 45 inches & longer, with at least a dozen four footers being chased but not landed. This is shaping up to be a very special year at Molson. Stay tuned for more photos...

June 5th Update

I arrived at Molson on May 23rd with 80% of the lake still covered with ice. The weather was on our side for a change, and by the time the first guests arrived at the main lodge on May 28th - the ice was almost gone. The first week of fishing at Molson has been unbelievable. Today, alone, our guests caught six Master Anglers made up of all three species - Northern Pike, Walleye, and Lake Trout. Besides the Master Anglers - every guest is catching multiple Northerns 35 in. & north, Walleyes 25-27", and Lake Trout in the 30 in. range. The big Northerns are schooled up in shallow bays with four footers swimming by the boat every day! The Walleyes are still congregated in the rivers, and the Trout are in shallow water. At this pace, we will smash the camp record for number of Master Angler fish. Jerry Sondag, below-left, and Joe Sondag, below-right, can attest to the fast action fishing. They arrived May 28th, and caught nine Master Angler fish between the two of them in four days.

Molson Lake Lodge Lake Trout report

by Steve DeZurik

molsonlake I had the unusual opportunity to take advantage of someone's slight misfortunes this past week. Tom Wallrich and relatively regular customer of mine gave me a call and mentioned that his partner had to back out of a fly-in fishing trip and the trip was already paid for and I was the lucky angler that Tom offered the trip up to. The trip was to be a 5 day expedition to Molson Lake Lodge in central Manitoba with the primary target of Lake Trout in shallow water with hopes of a good pre-spawn bite….Naturally I have never experiencing this before I felt blessed with the opportunity and leaped at the chance!

molsonlake Tom and I drove to Winnipeg, Manitoba and arrived last Tuesday evening. With a early flight departure on Wednesday morning, driving up the night before naturally made sense. Wednesday morning came and we jumped aboard a twin turbo prop 20 passenger plane and enjoyed a quick 1-1/2 hour flight to Molson Lake Lodge and quickly awaiting there was our guide for the week Sam Muskego! We anxiously got unpacked and dressed for day on the water to await us. Within minutes of arriving at our first spot, we hook up almost immediately with a scrappy 6 pound Molson Lake lake trout that came out of 4 foot of water. Needless to say I was unaware that this would be the bite for the next 4 days of fishing. Pitching white jigs and plastics and hair jigs to shallow lakers had my 100% full attention and could hardly contain myself with a childish giggle on nearly every cast and a gorgeous 6-9# lake trout on the other end! This reminded me too much of smallie fishing….except they were on steroids.

molsonlake My equipment packed for the trip was a couple 6'6" St. Croix Avid medium light rods, a shimano Symetre 1500 reels wound with Power Pro and an assortment of white and pink plastics and hair jigs for pitching and stickbaits for trolling. These tenacious fish gave me and my equipment every angle of a workout. By days end my arms were sore without a doubt. Our best day consisted of 149 lakers between the hours of our guide trip of 8:30am and 4:30pm and that’s including an hour in a half of the one of the best "true" shore lunches I have ever tasted. Tom and I were hooking up on nearly every cast when we got in to the "spot" that our guide Sam put us into. This was the first time in a long time that I did not have to run the boat, take fish off or have the pressure of putting the customers on fish. It was a blessing without a doubt. Included in the mix of all these lakers were a few hungry pike taking their fair share of swings at our offerings. The biggest pike to the boat was a nice 38" fish that drilled a 3/8th oz white hair jig at the boat. One of the unusual characteristics about the lake trout up there last week was the fact that the faster the jig moved the more attention it got. My 5/16th and 3/8th oz jigs unquestionably were the favorites of the lake trout as they would pass on the slower falling ¼ oz weight jigs.

molsonlake Also one of the highlights of the trip was getting fed like kings up there. Coming back to the dock, the lodge had awaiting you a fine course of a dinner of prime rib, steak, turkey ,etc….each evening. The mornings were no different as you had fresh made to order eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, toast, etc….

This was my first time to a all inclusive lodge like this and I have to say, truly a trip of a lifetime!
Thanks again Tom!
